Hi,
You don't need a special for singles - if you do that you'll pay a lot more, and have less freedon to choose what you want to see and do.
I always just get a guidebook for the country (or countries) I want to see (such as Lonely Planet), book a flight with Ryanair and stay in Hostels. Hostels these days have single rooms, and they're all in competition on Hostelworld.com for the best ratings so you know they will look after you, plus they're clean, comfortable, safe, and some have single rooms too.
There are many benefits, first you will save money, plus usually the hostels are located right in the center of the city's historic sights, and you will meet other travellers who also what to see the sights...not to mention that in the hostel they will help you see the sights and organise tours for you.
If you are into art and culture, how about starting in Rome, and taking the train north to Florence ... it's very easy to book all that online (see links bellow). from Floence, take day trips to Assizi and Siena, then head to Cinque Terre for some hiking on your own in the hills!
If not Italy, how about Spains cultural heritage?
You could fly into Santiago De Comnpostela, see that stunning cathedral, take the train down to Madrid, then take day trips to Toledo (city of El Greco), Salamanca (home to the world most beautiful Plaza mayor and stunning cathedrals), and Segovia (for the amazing Roman aquaduct) ... then either head north to San Sebastien via Bilbao (where the world famous Guggenheim Museum is), east to Barcelona for some Gaudi, or South to see Spain's Moorish heritage in places like Cordoba (the Mezquitta), Granada (the Alhambra Palace) and Seville...
For more advice I suggest you either email me, or check out the Lonely Planet Thorntree - it's the worlds largest travellers forum!
hope that helps, links below

Holidaying on your own is called a retreat. Is this what you really want? First, establish what is really making you feel this way.
If it is people around you, then please go ahead. But if it is something else, ie: pressure, stress, you might just need someone to perk you up and that would mean a company for you.
Whatever you decide, the holiday people will help you. It would just mean that you pay extra supplements for being on your own but you'll have the same facilities as others.
Relax and enjoy your time.

You don't say where you are but two UK-based companies are ideal for people travelling alone who want to join up with a group of like-minded people. They're organised trips but you tend to get quite a bit of free time...read the dossier/trip notes closely.
Check Explore Worldwide and Exodus
http://www.explore.co.uk/
http://www.exodus.co.uk/
I've used both companies for a number of trips (including one week in Tuscany last year with Explore) and they regularly have America, Canadian and Australians in the group.
If that's not for you, I also suggest backpacking - if you stay in cheaper places and eat where other travellers hang out, you'll meet other people quite quickly....and have the advantage of going where you want to go / spending longer in one place if you want to, etc etc. Lonely Planet's guidebooks are geared towards people wanting to do just that.
