Well taking care of a pet is a way of learning responsibility. I think these are legible excuses:

1 Someone in the family is allergic

2 Your friend Emma is not responsible

3 They don't live in the right kind of house for a pet

4 They can't afford it

There could be a number of reasons why she cannot have a pet. If it is a rented home there may be a ruling saying No Pets Allowed. A member of the family maybe allergic to animals or perhaps everyone works and Emma is also out so no one to care for the poor creature. It is neither right nor wrong until the reasons are made clear.

Its a hard one, to be honest its a shame for ur friend not having a chance to have a pet I've always had Cat's and Dog's around me, but people who I speak to now in adulthood who without a pet feel they missed out.

The only reason I could personally give for stopping a child from have the love, friendship and responsibility of a pet would be if someone had really bad allergies/asthma, even if someone had a phobia its not all animals its normally one or the other.

Come on what's a goldfish or even a gerbil perfect for any child to love and care for, I just feel all kids should be brought up loving and caring for animals, not running away scared because there parents have terrified the life out of them through there own fears or disgust towards animals.

No, i think she should be allowed pets (if her accomodation permits this)
People say about parents having the last say, and its not true that they always end up looking after them, there are many responsible and caring kids out there.
Parants are way to strict on things like pets, yet dont care that their kids are hanging out on the streets until 1am, causing trouble and scarin old people, and people will say not all parents are like that, which is true, but have you seen them kids out there, 100000000s of the little *******.

If the parents gave them something to do with their time and maybe respected them a little more with responsability the kids would be better and learn to be more responsable.

HOWEVER, if there are allergies involved, or that emma is just not responsable enough then no, she shouldnt have one, maybe she can get a battery operated yappie dog toy instead.

Depends on whether her parents have a good reason-is she the kind of girl who could not be relied on to look after a a pet and would leave it to her parents?

If she is responsible then no it isn't fair.

Is she 16 yet?

If so she doesn't need her parents consent even if she lives with them-if they try and get rid of her pet it would be theft.

Before she buys one though she should be sure her parents aren't the type to kick her out for making them mad.

If she is a minor, and she lives in her parents house. Then it is right. She does not own the house and therefore can not make the decisions (same as if you lived in an apartment that did not allow pets). Her parents may know that she couldn't afford to keep it, or that she would get bored of it in a couple weeks and make her parents take care of it. There may simply not be room or your friend's parents may not think she is mature enough for a pet.

Not allowed by who? Parents -- can and should have strict rules about pets. Apartments - can absolutely have no pets rules because it is fair to the whole community. She could move to a pet friendly apartment where pet owners follow the rules about pets.

I believe all kids should be allowed to have a pet. It teaches them responsibility and companionship. Depriving a child of a pet because the ''parent'' believes it better is an injustice on the upbringing of children. At least the child wants to care and look after something, so why stop them!
