As far as country's go, I would say that China is gaining momentum. They are having alot of success in influencing foreign country's in Asia and South America. They are also increasing their national productivity and trading. The United States has not been able to maintain the pace of their economy and have instead become dependent on their markets.
As for an ideal like communism, it has got to be the idea of globalization. The United States is still the greatest nation in the world. We can be so far ahead of everyone else except for this idea that we have to share our wealth and prosperity with other nations without requiring them to maintain a high standard. We have entered into outrageous trade agreements with other nations that have crippled us. We seemed to have also bought into the idea that we should give all the other country's in this world free access to our market and our technology without making them give us something in return. We have lowered our quality standards to accommodate foreign manufacturing. We have to re-instill the fact that we should hold all the chips at the bargaining table. These countries' need us more than we need them. Trying to bring peace and democracy to the world sounds nice, but most of the countries' in this world only want our resources.

I might go with Bobby on this one. The expression "better the Devil you know" applies here. Russia and China are back-door enemies - they kind you don't know are screwing you until it's too late to do much about it.
So-called "Islamofascists" are enemies, but the damage they could cause us is very limited. Ditto our other "known enemies" like Hugo Chavez. Iran is more powerful, but indications are although we don't like their mouthy president and we don't like their system of government, we are not enemies of the Iranian people.
India is powerful but benign. Whereas China and Russia seek to dominate; Russia in the area of energy; China in practically everything else. The EU is competitive and often at odds with US policy (especially as regards the stand-off on agricultural subsidies and trade tariffs), but we share too many common ideals to consider ourselves as enemies.
Finally, addressing the "enemy within". Although people on different ends of the political spectrum seem to live on different planets sometimes, a good 95% of Americans want what's good for America. There is just a difference of opinion as to what is good for America - there is no malevolence in it.

We are our greatest enemy. The people in the US have always eaten ourselves. The greatest enemy to the western culture is Islam. Cut and dried.

The president and his administration have done more harm then any other enemy. I would say that they are the the biggest enemy to the American people.

Complacency. That isn't a who, I know. But, it's our biggest enemy. Either that or ignorance.
People saying the current administration is our worst enemy seem to have forgotten that we the people voted for them.
The people saying it's the liberals are just plain dopey.

Vladimir Putin. When your country produces 1 million barrels of oil a day (and holds many eastern bloc countries to ransom for it), deprives basic civil liberties (including the systematic killing of anti-Putin journalists), supplies weapons to America's greatest Latin foe - Venezuela and Hugo Chavez's Dictatorship (Sent an original shipment of 100 000 units - AK 103's, and plans to build a weapons producing facility in Caracas by 2010) and vetoes any resolution in the UN to put continued pressure on Iran to stop producing weapons grade uranium or put pressure on the Military Junta of Burma to establish a democracy, you know you might have a slight problem (biggest understatement of the year ! ! !)
