When people are cruel they are really trying to control or manipulate. Its a way little egos assert dominance.

personally, I believe that cruelty has a lot o do with traumas of one's life. living in a post-war country I have seen many people display very cruel behaviour, almost identical to the one that others inflicted on them during or soon after the war. this causes many difficult situations and poses many social questions, but it also puts cruelty into perspective of "reflection", that is. cruelty causes more cruelty.

getting into an accident and breaking your spine just below the neck,... you'd be alive and fully sensate but you wouldn't be able to move. That would be the cruelest thing imaginable although who the imposer of that cruelty is is debateable.

My definition of cruelty is tearing someone down or causing them harm emotionally, physically, or mentally... I think that if u do any of these things knowing that it is going to hurt these people or that person than u are being "cruel"...If u knew it was wrong but did it ne Way then ur being cruel....(u know wut i mean..i hope)

Intentional infliction of unnecessary pain. If the pain (physical, emotional, whatever) is unintentional--not cruelty. Same if it is necessary.

People are not, initially, cruel, but they are selfish.

Cruelty comes when it meets some need or desire that
is acquired since birth.

Sometimes children are unintentionally cruel, but malice,
like smoking, is an aquired addiction.
