Some smokers used to believe that a pack of "Luckies" could bring them luck.
A ritual emerged involving turning one cigarette upside-down in a fresh pack, followed by selecting one cigarette at random. Selecting the upside-down cigarette would indicate good luck.
In the UK, the 'Lucky Cigarette' practice is followed with the first cigarette pulled out of the box turned upside down and replaced, and so will be the last one to be smoked out of the packet. This cigarette is then highly valued and not given away to friends, as it becomes the personal smoke of the owner of the packet.
Another 'Lucky Cigarette' practice, from California, is to take the first two cigarettes removed from the package, and placing them back in upside down. These cigarettes were to be used only when a special occasion called for it, or when one was simply out of other cigarettes.
Another variation of the above was to turn two Cigarettes up-side-down for luck and sexual activity. the turning would be followed by saying "one for luck and one for ****".

the packs of 25 cigarettes were divided into 2 sections...the left side with 12 cigarettes and the right side with 13 cigarettes...the middle cigarette of the 13 cigarette side is to be turned upside down and then to be your "lucky" cigarette to be smoked last...maybe the lucky part would be that you could kick the habit...I did :)

I read the other answers, I didn't know it was supposed to be lucky. Lots of my friends smoke, and according to them you put the one you're going to smoke next upside down so the tobacco is all pressed down to the side of the cigarette you put to your lips, that way every smoke you inhale is richer.

My ex used to do this..

He called it his "Lucky"

That would be the last one he'd smoke and as long as he had the pack on him, he'd have good luck.. allegedly.

It didn't work. It's just a waste of time and makes you look foolish. All it brings is lung cancer.
