Sure! Cheating can only be done when you are married or have been intimate with someone. In other words. If you were not married, or had been intimate with someone, then had sex, you would not be an adulterer. Seeing as adultery is Biblical based we have to go there for an answer. So to run through the thought "does God think having sex is adultery"? In the story of the lady at the well, Christ told her she had 6 husbands. Most believe that she was a prostitute (wrong) but at least they get the point that if you have sex then in Gods eyes you are Married. So if you are a single virgin and have sex then in Gods eyes you are married and not an adulterer. Sort of ruins the idea of premarital sex since the act makes you married! Any way how does one become an adulterer. Simple. Once one is married, in Gods eyes or in every ones eyes and you have sex with anyone else, you are an adulterer. So, YES cheating makes you an adulterer.

No. Adultery happens in the confines of marriage and both partners can commit adultery with each other knowing and participating....swinging, threesomes, watching pornagraphy or when a wife knows her husband has a mistress, but allows it. Adultery referes to the tainting of the marriage union.
Cheating is when the other person does not know about the adulterous behavior. if you are commiting adultery, you may or may not be cheating. However, you cannot cheat unless you are committing adultery. Cheating speaks to the individual behavior within a marriage.
Cheating is adultery, but adultery is not always cheating.

Adultery is the biblical term for cheating on your "spouse". They are the same when it comes to legal marriage, but cheating seems to be only specific to unmarried people in committed relationships.

I thought adultery is having sex with other partners, and it can be whether you're married or not? Cheating would be anything, not necessary having sex with others. That's what I think. But cheating would be more of not telling the truth to the partner, whereas adultery can even be with consent of partner's... Hah! Yeah, right! :D

Actually, no. Cheating means any actions aimed at any sexual contact with any human except your spouse. Adultery IS cheating, but it has a specific meaning, and requires real and actual sexual contact.

adultery is if you are married to someone and you then are with someone else and cheating is if you are with someone (but not married to them) and then are with someone else
bottom line is unfaithfulness is unfaithfulness..if you are in any type of relationship, you should Honor that relationship and operate in total trust, honesty, and faithfulness
even emotional cheating is cheating ....you can doctor or fancy up the words and play word games but no matter how you slice it, cheating and adultery both are cheating period and are a form of total disrespect to the other person in the relationship

What about infidelity in the mix?
It is all the same for the most part but depending on what state you live in. In my analysis, I would put adultry on married people and cheating on singles but in a committed relationship. An unmarried person can commit adultry if they are with a married person, then by the law they are committing adultry. Now is that as clear as mud?
