Had this happen with one of ours some time ago, but fortunately I was in the room at the time. Have always had a cover over the tank since .... when the bowl was a smaller one I used to put a hairnet over the top! Now we have a large tank with a proper lid. Our two goldfish are 13+ years old.
Sorry to hear your news.

A bowl?? Try an aquarium with a proper lid, that'll stop any kamikaze behaviour.
(When my fish die I always put them in the compost bin because they're good for that. I know it's a bit iffy, but burying would also work and the fishes body will provide sustenance for a plant.)
I've just read some of the other answers and I can't believe people are still keeping fish in bowls. Jeepers cripes, think of the fish and give it proper accommodation with a filter and room to swim in a straight line!

Sorry to hear that!
If it was a goldfish though it shouldn't have been in a bowl, They are only suitable for large tanks or ponds! Try a shoal of White Cloud Mountain Minnows! Hardy, stay small and don't need a heater! Check out some of the tropical sites like thinkfish for a list of other suitable cold water species and learn the truth about what happens to the poor goldfish!!

While this is kinda sad, it could have been prevented. Instead of a bowl, try keeping fish in a tank with a hood. Also fish jump out when conditions are not right (i.e. temp, pH hardness) so check your water parameters and make sure they are good for your fish.

so sorry for your loss... try a cover when you decide to get another....Bettas are nice but they can be jumpers if I remember you had a goldfish...right.......but now you know what to do... I think I answered you question yesterday... it sucks... I cant count how many times I have found Kamacazi on the floor proir to going and asking advice from the fish store... he was lucky and now is covered....he was actually comlpetely dry once and bounced back.. he is definately on one of his 9 lives.... again sorry....

you can find tanks pretty cheap in your local paper or goodwill stores sometimes if you want to upgrade...smile... good luck with your next one...smile

The hobby is a great one. You happened to get off to a bad start. Clean the bowl and use it for candy or something. Then get a proper aquarium and try again soon, this time wiser.

A lid would help next time. the fish would have had to jump out at 11:59 to die this morning. (-:

Yup it happened to me but what i do is when they jump pout i try and get there as if you get them back in tank within 20 seconds is the golden time if you go over that yes there is a risk of death such in your case.

Sorry to hear

Maybe this will teach you to ditch the bowl and get a real fish tank.
