Your computer is sustaining damage the second you turn it on. Heat is one of the biggest enemys of the computer (of course the human is the #1 enemy). You PC is at a constant battle keeping that heat down every time it is turned on. You can leave your computer on every single day if you want to. The average life of a hard drive is about 5 years. Leaving your computer on every day for 4 years might kill the hard drive. To be honest, I leave mine on all the time, it's convenient. And the way computers go Im going to need one by the time 4 years is up anyway. Besides, the hard drive has the least amount of life span, probably next to you power supply, and ive seen a hard drive last 8 years. It just depends on how you use it. If your going to leave it on all the time you might want to get a can of air to dust out the inside as well in order to keep the cooling process running smoothly. Good luck!

Some computers, like servers, stay on all the time, for years at a time. Hardware does degrade a bit faster if you're using it, but is designed to be left on all the time.
I wouldn't worry about it at all unless you're thinking of saving electricity. You can probably set your monitor and harddrive to turn themselves off after awhile; this is all I do and every computer I've had has lasted 5-6 years, well longer than it was useful given the rate change in technology.

You cannot harm a computer by leaving it on. As long as you do not have windows 98 it theoretically can run forever.( 98 had a memory hole that mad it eventually crash )

i leave mine on for days, but they start to run slower and a restart every few days will fix that. I can only speak with knowledge of windows PCs.
