I have a 5 1/2 week old baby boy. I just wanted to see if anyone knows when you are suppose to get your period again (besides the initially bleeding from having a natural delivery)? I did bleed for like 2 weeks afterward but I just wanted to know does it just start like normal again?

Also I talked to my pediatrician because my little angel eats alot for his age I thought. He eats easily 4 oz. every 2 hours and more times than not he can eat up to 6 oz. My ped told me to give him a tbsp. of rice cereal twice a day but I thought you shouldn't start that till a minimum of 3 months old? I also had a friend tell me to do corn strach because it isn't as heavy? I would appreciate any feedback.

I bled for 6 weeks after i had my c-section then the following month after that (4 weeks later i mean) my period returned and was normal from then on.

Don't do the cornstarch. The doctor would have not told you to give the baby cereal if it was bad.
I started giving my son cereal when he was 4 weeks old. Nothing wrong in that. I would start out with a teaspoon. Good luck

Your period will show up soon enough. If your are nursing it can take much longer. It may however take a few cycles to become "normal". As far as rice cereal, it should not be introduced until the baby reaches 4 months of age. He cannot assimilate it yet and it is just a filler. If your baby is hungry feed on demand. With nursing a mom is blessed without knowing how much or how little the baby is getting. All she needs to worry about are the presence of wet diapers and bowel movements. A formula fed baby's mom has the amounts right there and can be a source of worry. The rule of thumb is feed on demand. Filling a baby up on cereal is a mistake because then they don't drink the milk that they need. There are studies that show that giving rice cereal before 4months can cause future problems with diabetes. Just relax and good luck!

there's no way to tell you when you'll get your period, it varies from woman to woman.
As for the rice cereal, you are the mother, if your pedi gave the OK to add cereal to his bottle and you feel comfortable with that than do it. It won't harm your baby to eat 6 oz in on feeding anyway.
Also your baby is almost 6 weeks so he could be going through a growth spurt. These crazy feedings could be short lived

First, your period will return your hormones return to thier pre-pregnancy state. That could happen any time, there is no timetable. If you were breastfeeding, it would be much longer but your second question suggests that you're not, so I'd say within the next 3 months you should probably expect its return.

As for the second issue, a child should not have any solid food -- including cereal -- before they are developmentally prepared for solids, and those signs of readiness are:

Ability to sit up well without support.
No remaining tongue-thrust reflex which automatically push solids out of his mouth with his tongue.
Readiness and willingness to chew.
Development a “pincer” grasp, where he can pick up food and other objects between thumb and forefinger.
Interest in food and trying to eat

Pediatricians are not, despite what we may be led to believe, well educated about child nutrition and gastrointestinal health. They often make suggestions to feed food before it is developmentally appropriate for a child, because they think that a healthy appetite is a signal of a need for more food. It is not.

Cereal should NOT be mixed with formula (or breastmilk) in a bottle for a child without specific special medical needs, as it poses a choking hazard. A baby who is not ready for solids is not able to push the thickened milk around in their mouth in order to avoid having too large a swallow for their throat to manage.

Your period will start back as normal might take a couple of months tho.. As for feeding your baby rice cereal its fine... Had to do the same for my son.. He was waking up every two hrs.. Once I started feeding him the cereal he was fine... Now stay with the rice for now tho.. My doctor then said that was the only one that would not bother him.. stay away for the corn starch... Good luck

ur period can take a couple of months 2 get back to normal, as for feeding ur babe i wouldn't start him on rice etc yet his digestive system is 2 immature try giving him some cooled boiled water in between feeds to see if that suffices his hunger a bit. Good luck and Congrats
