There's a big difference being in a show like survivor for a few weeks, which is mainly sheer entertainment & knowing that in an emergency help is just a few feet away. Real Robinson Crusoes however, have it much more difficult. Think about all the things that you take for granted that would not be available on a desert Island, not to mention the isolation. Not much fun.

I have spend some time in a small island and let me tell you. It is fantastic in a way, because you sure will feel free and without worries. The bad thing is that getting help if there is any problem may take a long time, and when help is needed, every second is precious.
PS: I moved to an island where there were barely 1,000 residents, and because of my work, I now live in an island of about 12 million inhabitants.

I would not like to be on a deserted island because one would be all alone.
Might seem nice sometimes, but it would not be nice if you get a disease, or get attacked, or old, or just want some company. This might include times when something nice happens, it is good to have others around who you care about.

MEEE!!! Then only will I have a few minutes of quiet time and ME time! But yeah, I think it would be interesting to NOT have the distractions of the city or noise of the cars or those pesty sales tax!! Just living on your skill like it used to be. I have lived without indoor plumbing and power before for a few months (was in the deep south lol) and got my water from the mouth of the creek and i fished and hunted most of my meals. so I some what know what its like. It was fun to say the least and I would love to do it again, well, I'd rather the kamode be INSIDE but you know lol

No your are not alone. I think this is an idea that fascinates alot of people. But I'm equally sure the reality wouldn't be nearly so attractive. Personally I would miss little things like, breakfast cereal, and toothpaste, a bit too much I think.

I've gone camping in Northern Ontario with friends for up to 7 days. We "roughed it" as it's called. No frills camping and it was really cool. But after about the 5th day its kind of nice to know that you'll be going home soon!

I have thought about two different ways of living the life of a "Recluse".....One, if I ever hit the big one... Give all of my family there cut, pay off bills, and go and buy myself a little "Shack" in Italy, up on a hill, over-looking the ocean... To where there was no modern techno, anywhere in this shack. except a toilet and a Havock, to sleep on, indoors, and one outdoors.. I would have my own 'water-well' on this land, my own gardening, my own trees hiding everything at my camp and my shack, and no pathways, showing anyone lives there, because I would take a different way to town to get my 'fresh-fish', and wine, or cheese, or anything I might need other than what I already am surviving on... I would only have a bicycle, to use for my ways of getting around.. should I ever need to go too town for things.. I would learn to spear fish, so I wouldn't need to rely on the town's people, with a carved wooden-spear. I would learn how to make my own fire's to cook the fish, so that I would never have to use briquet's again.. I would relish on the sunshine, each and every chance I had to be outdoors, I would be, even in the rain I would take rain-shower's, and bathe in the waterfalls, and learn what types of organic leaves, or soil's or plant-form's would cleanse me better than using deordorant's and soap's... and shampoo's, and just wash my teeth with water, and find mint leaves to freshen my breath with.. because I've heard the flouride in toothpaste has nothing but sugar in it, and according to the "Fit For Life" book, we should only be using water, and a breath mint anyway, because of fluoride being so bad for our teeth. There are so many things I'm leaving out here, but I dont want to write a book on you, here, and hopefully I haven't already.. the other way was a mere "mansion" on the hill of where I live, up in the mountain's on acre's of land, and with horses, and an oriental couple to do my gardening, and fresh water springs all around with water-falls, man-made, and "Coy-Fish' ponds with bonzai trees, and the like on about 5-10 acres of land... I've already designed it, on paper.... And named it, too! Smile!! Excellent Question!!!!

maybe when I was younger and healthier, it would be a fascinating experience, but I don't think I'd want to do it for the rest of my life, even if I could. It does have an appeal to it though.
