a friend who is going to install an air conditioner compressor on my car for me? He is my best friend's husband and he is always saying "don't worry about it" but I wanna give him something...What do you think?

A case of beer. That's the preferential currency for my husband and his friends. They help each other out - they get beer. No one has to feel awkward taking money.

Just the parts for an air conditioner compressor replacement will cost $100s. So either give him at least $500 in cash or a $25 or $50 gift certificate for tools (northerntool recommended above is a good idea) or parts (http://www.rockauto.com auto parts, http://www.yearone.com , etc.)

the compressor is about 100 itself,so another 100 or 150 for labor and to charge would be the bare minimum.

Whatever YOU are comfortable with. He probably meant it when he said "don't worry about it", believe it or not, there are still people out there like that, (I'm one). If you really want to just do what your comfortable, if your budget is low, just slip him a few bucks and say "thanks, this beer's on me". I think it's the acknowledgement of being thankful more than anything. Don't worry, if he doesn't want it, he'll insist you take it back.

I would say that sometimes in life we need to know how to be a good receiver than when someone wants to do something nice for someone we should take that they are trying just to help us out and be compassionate
