Personally, I thought that the story has either a you like it or hate it feel. It had a different story, it wasn't saving the world, it was reclaiming land and more of a war story, I didn't like the story much. (there wasn't any love stories hardly). Final Fantasy X, VIII had better stories, VIII was a love story and about growing as a person and X was religious chaos (to me) and saving the world.
For length, its how long you make it by doing the sidequests, leveling up etc.

FF10 had an amazing story, and i honestly havent finished 8 yet.
you cant really ask how a ff game compares timewise to another ff game because theres so much you can do, or not do. for instance, ff12, you only have to do 1 hunt. if you do the other ones you spend another 30-40 hours in the game. do you go after the best weapons in the game or not? theres never a "this ff game is shorter then this ff game" because every ff game ive ever played has had tons of things you can do but dont have to do.
if you do nothing but the required story ff12 is prolly a little shorter.

hello again! this answer depends on what type of game you prefer. ff10 was a love story for the most part, like most ffs. ff12 is the first one i think to not be a love story. it is based more on reclaiming land taken by an empire. and i'm really not sure if it is longer. it can last probably 40 hrs without any of the MANY sidequests. i like it and i hope you do too!
