UK, Germany, Italy, Sweden, France, Belgium, Ireland, etc....

But, you will find idiots everywhere in the world - I also had troubles when I had visited the U.S. a few years ago. Racists and morons are in every country, and I never had any problems while I was in Russia....I had more problems when I had been to New York!

Edit: but it also depends how you (as an American) acts and behaves in another country...When you're unfriendly, loud and arrogant and telling everyone that America is the number 1 nation in the world, etc...then you also shouldn't be surprised when you get negative replies back from the native residents over there...

Denmark, Czech republic, Slovenia would be my recommendation,
still most countries are tourist friendly, so it really doesn't matter whether you are American or not, how people treat you would more depend on the kind of person you are.
I've known a woman who simply couldn't get any kind of service anywhere - mainly because every time she encountered the slightest of problems, she would completely freak out, ask to talk to a manager, wanted people fired (cause her towels were not changed at 10am but at 11am) and she was waving her passport around saying "i'm an American citizan, i demand .... blah, blah ...) - not a pretty site, - but that all has more to do with her as a person than with a fact that she was from the US. I work in tourist industry in Denmark and I know for sure that Americans are as well received as anybody else.

Any place in the world is 'American' friendly IF you respect the country and culture that you are visiting. Granted, I would not visit any country that is in the middle of a war or has ongoing political strife.

You have to be a friendly American in order to be treated in kind. I take at least one trip a year and I go to places that make people nervous (just got back from Egypt) and I find that they need/want the tourist dollars.

You should try the Philippines. The people are very friendly and they speak English. There are lots of beautiful beaches. Boracay is supposed to be the best beach. I have been to Apuao Grande Island. It has a very nice white sand beach. Check it out at Swagman Hotel web site swaggy.com.

Try Mexico, the people are used to us. Many people speak English. Russians are always experiencing immigration issues, they are usually a friendly people, but the language can be a problem.

No matter where you go, try learning a few basic words in that country's language (hello, thank you, please). Know how to smile, and don't be arrogant. Also avoid large crowds of English speakers as it only irritates the locals. It also helps to learn the tipping scheme of any given country. It often isn't the same as in the US.
