I work in a restaurant, and have worked in several. The best thing to eat in a restaurant when dieting is a house salad with no cheese and a piece of grilled chicken with their fat free dressing on the side. Most restaurants salads (ex Honey Crisp Chicken Salad, or a Ranch Chicken Salad both served at Uno Chicago grill) contain as many calories and fat as a cheeseburger, with the cheese and the fried chicken and the tortilla chips, they are delicious but don't fool yourself that is just as high in fat and calories as a cheeseburger.

Salad, or any grilled-meat dishes w/ veggies.
But in some places, they overdo on the salt, so watch out for that too.

I really don't think any food is quite safe, and if they are then they don't taste that great. My advice is if you want to eat something, go for it but watch your portions.

I know its a steak house BUT Outback serves the very best grilled Salmon a person can order. Don't get the sweet or white potato (you asked for healthy) get the green string beans. What a wonderful and not expensive meal. Today is Sunday and my niece and I go every Sunday honestly it is scrumtious.....oh darn! she is playing golf at Myrtle Beach today, well I just may go alone.

don't order fried food, instead take salads or something that's grilled. i think the type of restaurant doesn't really matter, unless you order the right food, but don't go to fast food restaurants!!

Cafeterias. For example, you can go to any hospital, wait in line, and get cafeteria food and pay. It's not employees only. It doesn't taste very good because the food that tastes the best is also very bad for you.
