Congratulations!! Well the baby is just getting used 2 the world. It's normal for a baby not to cry, but not crying for 24 hours.....I'm not sure. There are a lot of babies that cry at the time of delivery, but some do, and some don't, just depending on how they like what they see in the world around them.

I had my 2nd daughter on 22nd feb she was 6lb 12oz and I had a home birth, she didn't cry when she was born and I breast fed her within 20mins of delivery. She doesn't cry when she's hungry, she sort of mumbles and the only time she does cry is when she has her nappy changed. I believe that from an early age babies find there likes and dislikes this is why some cry more than others. If you are worried though speak to the midwife or health visitor and they will be able to re assure you or refer you if they think there is a problem. good luck xx

My son never did cry when he was born (i am sure he did when he was first born, as i was asleep because i had a c-section) but the whole time in the hospital he did not cry. My son weighed 4lbs 15.6oz and was 17 inches long born at 35 weeks with no problems whatsoever.
Some babies don't scream their heads off. If the doctor is not concerned then don't worry. Be thankful that the baby isn't screaming non stop but don't worry that will happen soon enough. Good luck and congrats

I wouldn't worry. My son didn't cry at delivery and the only time I heard him afterwards he was when he was hungry. He went through a little colicky stage where he cried between 6pm and 10pm most nights but he soon grew out of this.
18 months later and he doesn't cry that often and is a very placid and calm child.

They cry in specific circumstances to help their lungs strengthen. They cry because of the fact they are over inspired. Feed the toddler, burp, bathe, carry the toddler, convenience the toddler. Make issues as quiet and non violent as obtainable. A new child can't and that i repeat can't be manipulative. they choose what they choose, they could't be spoiled so carry your new child if that's what comforts him. while you're chilly, he in all probability is merely too and vice versa. If that would not artwork, see if his/her abdomen is delicate accurately or difficult. If the toddler is pulling "his" legs up and his abdomen is tough, he's constipated or has gasoline/colic. If each thing seems nice, no fever something like that, verify the toddler from head to toe, make useful no longer something is wrapped around a toe or the rest unpredicted. If each thing is nice, the toddler merely needs to cry. If it is going on for greater effective than an afternoon, bypass to the pediatrician. could desire to be lactose/iron in tolerance or ailment. each determine (mothers greater so it form of feels) sits of their lounge and crys over being the worst determine interior the international because of the fact they could't make the toddler quit crying. merely recognize that commonly they only could desire to cry. Momma2 needless to say has viewed all of this besides. You bypass woman!

I had a baby that rarely cried including at his delivery which was somewhat traumatic. He was a treat :) it quickly changed lol. If the baby hasn't cried AT ALL I would make a call, the baby should be crying on occassion. Other than that your sister is evry lucky to have such a content baby.

Of course it's normal. This baby had a normal delivery, no trauma. It's pleased to be here.
Feed the baby, let it spend loads of time snuggled up to mummy and just enjoy.
Not all babies cry!

My daughter was the same. Just spluttered when they cleared the airway. She only cried in later times when wanting a feed in the night. During the day she made a little sound to be noticed and did not cry. She is fifteen now and taller than me!

I think it is normal, some babies don't start to cry until 2 months after there born. But, if I were you I'd call the doctor to find out if there is anything you should do.
I hope this helps, good luck to you, your sister, and your new born nephew!
