Dalight Saving Time was made to save energy and costs in the USA and some other countries. As the year goes on, we have shorter and shorter days in winter, and longer days in the summer.

On the short days, a lot of that light is in the early morning when many people are not yet awake, and don't have lights on in their homes and businesses. Then, it gets dark early at night, so we have to have our lights on at home for a longer time before we go to sleep. Daylight saving time turns the clocks forward for part of the year so that instead of the sun rising at 5:30 am and setting at 6pm (for example) it rises at 6:30 am and sets at 7pm. So if we were going to wake up at 6:30 am anyway, this means we have an extra hour of daylight. And we get that extra hour by just changing the number on the clock twice a year.

Countries only adopted daylight saving time if they felt they needed it, and would be able to implement it. There are some areas in the USA that do not observe dalight saving time. The entire state of Arizona does not observe it.
