Ask yourself - what was it about the previous manager position that you liked and disliked? It sounds as though you do like having a manager role (and contrary to what others will say it is not always a control thing). Knowing this will help you during an interview process look for warning signs (for things you disliked) and positive signs (for things you liked).
I think you already know that a manager role will always have more stress then a run of the mill job. This will be true no matter if a position is "lower" or "higher" - they will simply have different objectives but still a lot of responsibility.
In the end, with the above points, I would recommend going through the process. You are in the driver's seat and can accept or decline at the end of the process. And you will learn more about your current self by doing it.

I think only you know whether you feel up to it or not.
As a manager, you are responsible for your team and if you are not up to the job, then the team will feel this also. Its really important that you do it for the right reasons. The question you need to ask yourself is: What makes you so stressed at work? Is it work or is it because you are a manager. And remember, Companies are different from one place to the next so don't assume all Companies are stressful places to work, but also remember that some jobs are more stressful than others.
Why do you want to go back into management if you have had such a bad experience? Are you sure yo want to put yourself through all that again? Is a difficult call. If you're ready, go for it.
Remember, just because the job is more 'junior' than your last, that doesnt mean it is necessarily more stressful.
Good luck!

Personally I would start back slowly even though you feel well that is because you haven't been back - why not see if you can get something part time and take it from there and if in a few months time you feel ready to go back into management you can find something then - your health is more important and you don't want to end up getting stressed again

I agree with Princess. I was in a similar situation a few years back. I now recognise when my stress levels are getting too high and can step back and put things into perspective. No job is worth your health so take it easy and give the job a try, you won't know unless you give it a go. All the best.

I work for the NHS so I know how you feel! You have an advantage this time, you know the signs of stress so you can call it a day before it begins to affect your health. You have to decide is it really what you want.

IT SOUNDS TO ME THAT ANOTHER MANAGEMENT POSITION WILL ONLY BRING BACK THE STRESS.....SOME PEOPLE ARE BORN TO POWER AND SOME HAVE IT THRUST UPON THEM...IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU CANNOT COPE WITH STRESS ...SO GET A JOB THAT YOU CAN ENJOY WITHOUT THE STRESS OF BEING IN MANAGEMENT

Since you need to be independent, take it for good. Your experiences in your past job will likely guidelines to you not to repeat same condition again.

You have to be sure that you are ready. Know one will know that better than you.
