I am a Chinese that live in Beijing and I have notice that a lot of websites in the US claims that China is able to manufacture products at cheap prices because we are using slave labor.
I can tell you that it is not true, the real reason our products are cheap is because we Chinese people are hand working and skilled workers. People working in the manufacturing industry in China do so willingly. No one is forced to work in factories, if you don't like your job you can quit any time you want. In fact these jobs are very competitive. People are lining up for hours just to get the job! So tell me, if it is realy as bad as some say, why would they do that?
And all thoses people who stand on soap boxes claiming China this or that. Why don't they come here and see for themselves? China is a safe country, you will be welcom treated with respect. So why are they just setting in their homes, and unwilling to listen?

This is an open question to everyone. But please respect yourself when answering.
P.S. To prove that I realy live in Beijing, the headline of China Daily(the national english newspaper) on march 6,2007 was "Wen targets balanced growth".

Some of you are saying that we treat our workers poorily. It is no ture. In fact the ministry of Labor is REQUIRED to provide health insurance to all the employees and many factory locations have health facilities on site. Factory workers can go to their local health center, sit in a chair and receive anti-biotics intreveniously. Usually within minutes.
Also, when you guys said we are paying our workers low wages, think about this: I can buy myself a good meal by only 10 RMB(about 1 USD) here in China. And in the US I don't think you can get it by a price like this. You just cannot compare apples with steaks. In China 300 RMB a month is a good wage.
Finally, about the gap between the rich and the poor. Well, this is the pain or free market! When we still under a planned ecomic everyone was the same(a.k.a poor). But under a free market ecomic, some will be rich and some will be poor, it is Adam Smith's 'unseen hand' that cause this, this is human's nature, not just China's.

This is to all thoses people that don't like things that are made in China. Just don't buy them! Under a free market economy it is the consumer's freedom to buy what they like and not buy what they don't like. There is nothing we can do about that. All I want to say is don't demonize us just because you don't like our products.
