running down the street. it is late at night. you see an angry mob on one end. you see a peaceful mob on the other. you have three choices. you can join the angry mob or you can join the peaceful mob. your third choice is to ask ONE of the mobs what they are doing? however if you do this then you can't join either of them and you must walk on by. what do you do?

Yes well, but from which direction I'm coming from?I mean if I have the angry mob behind me then surely I should keep running? If I had nothing to do with either mob, I'd just hail down a taxi and go home!

Angry mob. Then you have less chance of getting killed when the angry mob attacks the peaceful mob and there's more chance that someone will go beserk and kill you in the peaceful mob.......not so with the angry mob cause they're already gone beserk!!!!! Besides, any peaceful mob must all be stoners.....I mean if you were in a mob wouldn't you have a killing mentality?????

Hey, I'm too unique to join any mob in this situation, so I'm gonna ask the peaceful mob what are they doing. They may only seem peaceful :)

I'd go with the third option, and ask the peaceful mob what was going on. I don't like violence and would not want to stick around if there was a possibility of anything happening.

well i wouldn't want to join a group when i didn't know what they were fighting against. angry isn't always a bad thing.
and i wouldn't want to join a group that was necessarily at peace. because they might just be uninformed.
i would ask the angry mob what they were upset with, and so then i guess i would have to walk on by.

Interesting question. I would have to ask why I wouldn't be able to join. Who is going to stop me? And I suppose one nature of the conflict would be 180 degrees different from the other, depending on which side of the conflict one asked.
Just because one side is angry, does not make them wrong.
I would have to say that I would ask neither side, since the response would inevitably be biased and tainted. I would attempt to locate an unbiased source and glean information from as many such sources as I can.
And, as I am a Pacisifst by nature, I would refrain from joining and physical conflict of which does directly pertain to me.
All that being said, I wouldn't be opposed to filming the whole bloodbath and selling my footage to CNN.
EDIT: Indeed, upon rereading your question, tis true you do not specifically mention that any conflict exists between the mobs. However - it is implied and it would be unfair to ask the average person not to assume no conflict exists.
You construct a scenario in which there are two sides, yet we must either choose sides or move on. In that lies the implication of conflict.
