I let two of my coworkers leave, and it's just me and one other worker, and only I have the ability to take support chats ( i work for an anti-virus company) and now i'm way backed up working 2 chats a time with 4 waiting... Should I have been mean and made the other workers stay until more workers showed up?

I am just a fellow worker... it was almost their time to leave, and they asked if they should stay to help me out- i thought about it, but work was very slow when they asked if i needed them (they could have stayed overtime if they wanted).

I sympathise - you should have made them stay. Plus I have been one of those stupid callers and I bet you would have been able to type a novel by the time I finished.

Are you a supervisor? Do you have the authority to allow people to leave before their relief shows up? If you are supervisor and allowed that to happen, then you simply are irresponsible and haven't the backbone to do your job.

If you are in the same position, then you were probably trying to be nice so as to be accepted. If so, I hope that works for you.

You don't mention if this is a common practice where you work. If they do this for you and it was simply your turn, then you just tough it out.

I'd be careful of management finding out about it though.

Can't you put them all on a conference call????? I mean, how awesome would that be???? And all of the people on the line could meet and greet each other.....How great would that be to meet your hubby on a support call?????
