I actually have three favourate male r&b singers: Marques Houston, Trey Songz, and Ralph Tresvant. Marques Houston defienately has vocal ability. He's been on the r&b scene since he was a kid way back in the early 90s. He has succesfuly transitioned from boy to man, lyricaly. Some r&b singers cannot do not have range in terms of types of songs. Marques can not only sing mid-tempo ballads but also up-beat club joints. As well, he is an excellent performer. There is not one song on his albums ( MH, Naked, Veteran) that I do not like. His stuff I can actually play right through. So that is a plus in a my books. Unrelated to his vocal ability, is his acting career. He definately got the comedy role on lockdown, from being Roger on Sister Sister to Kevin on Cuts and on so on. Like his most recent album, Marques is a true veteran to this game. He's my favourite because he is not wishy-washy like other r&b singers but is here to stay.


Trey Songz is another R&B singer who has staying power. He has a wide range of vocal ability. For instance, in Twista's "Girl Tonite" Trey sounded just like the lead vocalist of Ready For The World in the original version "Tonight." As well, he has also done his rendition of R. Kelly's "Trapped in The Closet" which if you didn't know any better would natuarally assume it was R. Kelly himself. But don't get me wrong, Trey diffently has his own style. He sings sexy r&b songs with spiced with hip-hop. He takes his rightful place at the throne as prince of r&b.

My third and final favourite is no other than New Edition's Ralph Tresvant. He defined the vocal transition in r&b from boy to man. From his early career, in New Edition during the 80s, he had the ability to hit those high notes. In terms of music, Ralph can multitask. He not only sings but can rap too. His song entitled "Sensitivity" highlight his vocal range and ability as well as captures the heart. By not only reuniting with New Edition countless times but also producing yet another solo joint in 2006, Rizz-Wa-Faire, Ralph has the power to stay a float in an R&B world in which new talent is born everyday.

For these reasons I can honestly say that Marques Houston, Trey Songz, and Ralph Tresvant are my favourite R&B singers.
