Recently I had to take my 10 months old some to my family doctor instead of his pediatrian because the ped. was on vacation and my son was sick. He is teething super bad right now cutting all 3 of his top teeth. So he has excessive snotty nose, along with a little sore throat, and cold symptoms. No ear infection though. Well my doctor gave me a sample of clarinex syrup and sad I could give him 2ml 1 time per day. I have given it a few times and it helps so much with the stuffy snotty nose. But, I am curious is this really a safe medication for a 10 month old?? I would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you!!

Clarinex is the only syrup prescription antihistamine the FDA has approved for children 6months and older. So yes, the FDA has approved the drug for that age(most don't allow under 12 b/c there haven't been enough studies). Here is the article that talks about the safety studies the FDA reviewed that lead to their decision...

Actually my son (now 4 years old) has been on Clarinex for two years now and prior to that was on Zyrtec. My 6 1/2 month old daughter is now on 3/4 tsp Zyrtec also. Allergies and asthma run in our family and the kids have been a lot better since being put on the medicine. As long as you follow the dosage it's perfectly safe and will make your little boy a lot more comfortable.

Any reason not to give him tap water? You know what is in it, you get a yearly report from the facility. And it has fluoride that helps with teeth growth and development. Mineral water may be governed by the same rules that govern city water. But who knows what is in the bottle?
