Seems like it to me. I also wondered why he didn't ask for the full compliment in one go, you beat me to the punch with the question.
Maybe we should just say what's really on our minds, here: that the commanders in Iraq have never had a single clue about how many troops are needed and have consistently got it wrong. This reminds me so much of Vietnam where the generals underestimated the numbers of troops needed and just kept asking for more and more troops in small deployments, like they were pissing on a forest fire.
I'd love to have Hal Moore's take on this; he always claimed the generals during Vietnam had their heads stuffed up their butts.

Should we have waited for Saddam to exterminate a few hundred-thousand more? Would that have made you FEEL better? I am happy there were democrats that had balls during WWII or we would have been typing this in German. Why don't liberals call themselves what they really are COMMUNISTS.

Pretty much. He's saying he wants half them in Afghanistan, and the other half to "counter an anticipated Taliban attack this spring." I mean come on - remember, that we are fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here!! Is it 2008 yet?
