It depends on which type of weed killer you are using.
Almost all recommend that you apply the weed killer while the weeds are actively growing. Some types recommend a damp lawn, some dry, some you can apply with water through an attachment on your hose.
You have to read the label on your product to see what it recommends for best results.

rule of thumb is --- no likely hood of rain for 8 hours --fairly calm conditions -- and follow the instructions on the container to the letter --- and you have no problem .
i like to make the application around 9 in the morning which by 3 in the pm should have allowed the weed killer to take .

it is really hard at the moment because it has to be dry. but a good organic weedkiller which you can use and it doesnt matter if it rains soon after. when you have boiled your potatoes pour the water over the soil and the weeds will die'

Definately in March, when the weeds are really small....otherwise you just have loads of big dead weeds to clear!

it might be best to use when spring starts.. and keep usinng it.. because you'll kill them before they start to sprout really big.. and keep them dead all summer long
