Have you ever heard the saying, "Misery loves company"? Well, when your life is not going right, it's easier to talk about others and get involved with the "negative" things that are going on with them. This somehow makes our problems seem smaller and less significant. It is also a way to distract us from dealing with our own issues. And in the saddest instances, feeding off of the misfortune of others actually makes us feel better. We get a sense of: "Well, at least I'm doing better than him/her". Unfortunate, but true. This is why people engage in back biting and gossip.

Some of these people feel extremely insecure about themselves..so a way to cope and forget about there problems, even if its just for a minute, is to make other people feel worse...

By pointing out other peoples faults, making other people feel sad, embarrased, or wutever..they make themselves feel better..I dont like when people do this but its just a fact of life...

Maybe we do not know how to deal with our own lives. Maybe we feel more confident dealing with other's lives/business.
Maybe we are not aware of problems in our own lives--intentionally or unintentionally.
Maybe it an escape from our own problems--to deal with other's problems.
Who can say for sure. Different strokes for different folks.
Good luck
