I got my copy at Amazon, it is a real good picture. The man doesn't realize that he is what makes the field beautiful, not the land itself. In a year the field would be a mess within an year with any other person taking care of it.

Any other plot of land would be the little paradise within a year and landlords would do handsprings if he rented from them and the American's field would be an eyesore and give poor crops like the surrounding fields.

Because of the first field he probably could have gotten a rent to buy this time. But pride goes before the fall, it was like watching a great artist not realizing that it is he that makes the painting, not the canvas and tubes of paint and losing one great painting doesn't take away his talent.
