I mean when the advanced dancer is past the group dance lessons stage or is one-on-one with a friend who is a beginner.

Advanced dancers never get past the "group dance lessons stage." Taking class is an ongoing part of being a dancer. And there is always something that a dancer can work on, even at a slow level. But if the advanced dancer is looking for more than a warm-up by doing barre, then they would need the teacher to also focus on giving them corrections as well, and this would often be at the expense of the beginners. When class levels are more even, the teacher can sometimes direct corrections to the entire room and everyone is able to heed them. But that ability to heed group corrections usually comes at the intermediate level. Beginners, on the other hand, require a lot more in-depth explanations and hands-on placement by the teacher and, during those times, the advanced dancer isn't getting anything out of what's being said.

I've heard that before but never experienced it. Just lucky, I guess, but I like dancing with beginners or anybody else I can. Even if I didn't I'd act like I did, as others danced with me when I was a beginner. Rookies tend to be a bit too self-concious in the first year or so, but I think they put this on themselves more than it's put upon them. This, of course, is from a man's perspective, and I'm (we hope!) not at the mercy of a poor lead. With different anatomy I might feel different about it.

The reason most advance dancers don't dance with begginers isn't because they are snobby or feel that it's beneath them; it's because trying to dance with someone who isn't at the same skill level as you can be frustrating. It would be like you being the best runner on the track team; and being forced to work with the slowest person for the relays. Mostly, people try to move up levels in dancing. The intermediate people will move to advanced, the begginers will move to intermediate, etc.

Usually advanced dancers don't dance with beginners is because the advanced dancers need to be pushed into an even more advanced class, and the beginners need to be pushed into an itermediate class.

i like competition and striving for something! if you dance with people who are not as good as you i have no determination as where if i'm dancing with someone better than me i have the urge to do better!
