John F. Kennedy was the second son in an Irish American family which had a major focus on politics. When the oldest son died John Kennedy became the anointed one to succeed in politics.
At 23 he wrote the book “Profiles in Courage.” In 1943 he entered the navy and became a lieutenant (junior grade) commanding a PT Boat. In the Solomon Islands his boat was rammed by a Japanese Destroyer and he received the Purple Heart and the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for saving his crew.
In 1945 he became a reporter for the Hearst Newspapers and in 1946 he ran for (and won) the vacated 11th District Congressional Seat for Massachusetts. In 1952 he ran for the Senate and won.
In 1953 he married Jacqueline Bouvier and they had two children, Caroline and John.
In 1956 he began preparing to run for the Presidency. In 1960 he was nominated by the Democratic Party for president and won a very close election against Richard M. Nixon. In so doing he was the youngest man “elected” president as well as being the first Roman Catholic.
During his term of office he:
Lowered tax rates (which increased tax revenue to the federal government).
The Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba was a disaster.
The Berlin Issue was both a success and a failure. It was a failure in that the wall was build (in later years it was discovered that if Kennedy had pushed the issue militarily the wall would not have been built). It was a success in that Russia did not sign a proposed peace treaty with East Berlin.
The Cuban Missile crisis I remember very clearly. Radios were running all day at work and at home my self (and my young family) would set and listen to the news. We expected nuclear bombs to begin falling at any time. Kennedy got Russia to back down and withdraw the Cuban based missiles.
Nuclear atmospheric testing was resumed, first by Russia, and then the United States. This led to new treaty discussions and eventually to the limited test ban treaty and stopped the atmospheric testing.
In November 1963 Kennedy was in a cavalcade in Dallas, Texas, when he was shot and killed by Lee Harvey Oswald.

There was a conspiracy, but Oswald may have killed Kennedy on his own anyway. The sound recordings, images, and ballistics data all support the conclusion of the Warren Commission. No real evidence to the contrary exists. There was a mysterious lack of security, there were strange connections, Oswald's life story is in some ways incredible, many witnesses and knowledgeable intelligence operatives died without telling all they knew, and a number of powerful actors had motives to have Kennedy killed and appear involved with individuals who played a role in Oswald's life or death. Many questions do not and will never have satisfactory answers. Oswald could have killed Kennedy alone, with that gun, that day. There is no solid evidence otherwise.

John Kennedy aside from being the youngest and first Roman Catholic president elected ,helped get our space program started, he had a lot of charisma and encouraged people to do better and he started the presidental fitness awards.
He also stood up to Castro and the Russians during the Cuban missle crisis and got the USSR to pulled their missles out of Cuba. It was on his watch the Berlin Wall was built, the Bay of Pigs(in Cuba) invasion failed, he was the one who sent troops to Vietnam and started the build up which Johnson continued.

While many think of JFK as the darling of the presidents, he was partially to blame for the Cuban missile crisis.
He set the stage for it when he backed down and cancelled the naval support for the Bay of Pigs landing. That led to the Cuban missile crisis resulting in the blockade.
The solution? The Russians agreed to pull out their missiles (which were not yet operational) from Cuba if JFK would pull his operational ICBMs out of Turkey.
His track record in international power politics is nothing to brag about.

He negotiated and found a solution to a crisis of ideals that almost ended the Human Race.
He gets a thumbs up for that in my book. Save the world through diplomacy and dialog is a good thing.
He was ready to pull out of Vietnam, but was killed two days before signing the papers.
He sailed and piloted a boat.

He was nothing but a very weak President. He did nothing good for this country. Thank God for his death. If he had lived we would have been stuck with his brothers becoming Presidents, thus creating a monarchy in America.
