Nah instead i would take the guy/girl into a dinner and get him something to eat. Then i'd take him somewhere to get cleaned up and just talk. The reason this "tramp" is doing drugs is because he has no other life therefore he feels drugs is the only kick in life that he is. I'd try and help him in his life. But i definately see your point man.
Edit: Ok I wouldn't do it every time i see a bum because lets face it they're everywhere. But in this case I would. I always give money to them in the hope that someday they will wake up and change. peace.

Truthfully, I honestly don't know. This is one of those questions that I would have to face in person before making a decision. I want to say NO, But I also have some first hand knowledge in the drug area. NO, NOT ME, but I had a nephew who died from a drug overdose, as well as just a few (one or two) family Friends who I know do things (drugs) But from what I have seen if they are begging for money EVEN FOR DRUGS then they are NOT stealing from anyone. So I may very well give them a few bucks.

No I wouldn't promote drugs. A lot of cities have methadone programs now where they can get some daily to help them kick the habit.
Even when someone asks for money for something to eat, I won't give it to them but offer to take them to a restaurant nearby and pay for their meal once it's ordered. That way I know they eat. Welfare programs don't pay enough to keep people with a roof over their heads and enough food so a lot of them will spend their days asking for money for food and use it for cigarettes or liquor. And they are proud of how much they make that way!
I work hard for my money and won't support another's bad habits.

I wouldn't. I would never want someone to do drugs out of my money. I would rather talk to the tramp and convince him that doing drugs is bad and he should probably quit it. I would pay him much more than what he would demand me for drugs if he were ready to utilize it in some other way.

No. I don't go out to work to earn my money so some tramp can buy drugs with it. If anyone's going to buy drugs with it it's me!! ( lol - only joking) I've got better things to do with my money than spending it on some tramp getting high!

I once gave some money to a guy in San Francisco with the sign, "Why lie, I'll use it to buy beer."
At the same time, whenever someone on the street asks me for money, "cause I'm a Vet, " I quiz them. If they are indeed a Vet, I not only give them money but take them to a shelter. If they are lying (which most, unfortunately are), I shake my head in disgust.

One time this old man asked me for some money to buy some alcohol and since he told me the truth yes I gave it to him, and I usually don't give money to people who ask.

Nope... What good will that do? Just because they are telling their intentions does not mean they will try to better themselves. It's like giving a man a fish when you can easily teach him how to fish on his own...
