On balance, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 is the best all-around antivirus program. It excels at its primary task of preventing viruses. Reviews agree that Kaspersky is better than bestsellers Norton AntiVirus 2007 and McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007 in all aspects. Kaspersky is fast and light; it won't slow your computer as much as the bestsellers.

I agree with Sean x the best free one at the moment is the AOL one (which is Kaspersky)
If your going to pay for one then you want Nod32 voted the best AV of 2006, there's nothing out there like it.
Don't download AVG, putting a paper bag over your computer would work better than AVG.

stay away from AVG (loose version). this is wildly primary with babies and the computing device illiterate yet has traditionally had the backside virus detection fee of each and every of the primary loose anti-virus classes. Plus AVG WILL decelerate maximum underpowered desktops...and any laptop below approximately $1200.00 would be serverely underpowered and appropriate in particular for babies. you is easily not waiting to do lots authentic paintings on it. Sorry for the difficult-love, in case you purely offered a $six hundred kiddie cart.

Kaspersky Anti Virus - if you are willing to pay for it.
AOL active virus shield - If you want a free 1 this is very good. This is Kaspersky minus a few of the features.

Avg pound for pound is the best out....its free and antiviruses like Norton and Mcafee cant hold a candle to it...it doesnt have as many options as the others but unlike Norton and especially Mcafee if u decide that u dont want it just uninstall it and its all gone.......Mcafee is almost impossible to get rid of.....plus w/ AVG when it finds a problem it shows u were the root of the problem is, which is nice because if for some reason Avg cant delete or quarrentine the issue it shows u exactly where its at in ur comp so u can manually delete it.....updates automatically....totally hands free.....plus its not a resource hog like Norton...Avast is another free one but it doesnt compare to AVG......u wont be disappointed w/ this program.... enjoy :)

I am afraid if you want excellent protection then you have to pay for it. AVG whilst good still ends up near the bottom of all anti-virus tests.
I use NOD32 and have no problems at all and I use bittorrent heavily which increases my risk.

I find that Norton spyware 2007 is ok but it's better to run a full scan and check cookies.

For good, free and recommended security programs, please go here
http://www.webuser.co.uk/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/219333/an/0/page/0#219333
I recommend AVG as an anti virus, although eTrust's 12 month free trial is excellent (I'm using it and am extremely impressed).
If you need other programs, go for Zone Alarm firewall, AVG anti spyware (formerly Ewido) and SpywareBlaster.
If you click on the names in that list I gave you and it will take you to the official download site.
Please ensure that you keep them all updated for full protection and check for any updates when you first download them.

Depends if you mean Free AV software or one that you have to pay for.
For free I can recommend AVG from grisoft www.free.grisoft.com
For AV which you pay for, McAfee is my personal preference. I feel symantec is a bit of a system hog. :-)
