Im 14 and im learning C++, VB.net and c# all on my own but at the moment I use Visual Basic.Net more as its really easy but teaches you how programs are made so when I go on to c++ I will have the logic to do programming in more difficult langauages.
Also there are a lot of free tutorials and videos by microsoft to help you but always remeber if you download c# from microsoft (Microsoft Visual C# Express Edition) then its actually c#.net so if you get code for c# then it might not work.

They are both great for .NET applications with ASP. For more general applications my preference would be C# but VB is reasonable as well. C# has a better object-oriented design pattern whereas VB allows for more rapid development but is more of a pain to maintain.

It depends on what you are doing.

If its for the web then they are about the same, but if its for general programming purposes I would say c#
