how come cartoon characters like the Simpson's and futurama only have 3 fingers instead of 4?

It's quite simply that they were easier to draw. With today's technology, it is easier to animate the full range of digits, but Matt Graeber sticks to it as a convention, and even works it into the script sometimes!

The reason why the Simpsons characters have 4 fingers is because the artists take up less time in the day by drawing 4 fingers instead of 5. One of the Simpsons seasons told me that.

I guess most young people have never seen any old cartoons. Mickey Mouse only has 3 fingers. I'll take 3 fingered cartoons any day over creepy CGI. Thank goodness for Disney.

Saw the answer on a programme about the show, it saves them thousands.. they also draw the characters in the USA and send the stills to somewhere in Latin America for the colour to be added.. That alone saves them millions..

Scary that they are watching the pennies considering the money that the show brings in...
