Yes. Which leads to all sorts of so called 'bad' behaviour. Animals become stressed when they are kept in unsuitable conditions and not treated with respect.

Absolutely. Fish for example can die from the stress of extreme temperature changes in water. Stress also creates a flight or fight reaction with a shot of adrenaline. Corner an animal, it may fight. Run after an animal, it may flee. Both things are "stressful" to an animal.

Yes...they do. A lot of people think "Oh...a dogs life" OR "Oh...a cats life." So easy right? lol Well even though animals do not have 9-5's and have to pay bills they have needs that are not often met by their owners. There is not 'perfect pet owner'. I'm no exception, however, there is close to perfect. :)
Owning pets is more than food water and shelter. They have dietary needs that usually exceed their kibble as well as needs for exercise, love, mental stimulation, comfort, and the list could go on and on.
Most animals show stress (which usually turns into behavioral problems) when one of their basic needs are not met.

Yes, they do for a variety of reasons i.e something they dread like going to a vet, boredom, asking too much of them, not giving enough stimulation, a captured wild animal etc. They show stress in many ways from crying out to pacing up and down, even pressing their head into a wall.

Yes! They get stressed out if they are bored, or if they're kept in an enclosed space, if they don't get any attention and if they get shouted at or ar physically abused. There's no excuse for it! Stress can be prevented in all animals through attention and love from their owners :)

"Stress occurs when a human (or any animal) experiences any threat, either to his or her physical integrity or mental well-being."
"Stress is an internal experience of emotional or physical threat to the well-being or the survival of the organism."
"When an animal or a person is exposed to a change in the environment that requires work in order to get back to their usual function that is in fact stress."

Yes. Robert Sapolsky did a study on the effects of stress on wild baboons, and discovered it contributes to ill health and heart disease. Raised levels of bad cholosterol in the bloodstream are caused by stress. (His book is called 'A Primates Memoir') Theres some websites about it;
