Even for an expert, removing a virus properly from a computer is often a daunting task without the help of specific tools designed for the job.
Some viruses and other unwanted software (including spyware) are even designed to reinstall themselves after they have been detected and removed!
Fortunately, by updating your computer and using free, trial-period, or low-cost antivirus tools offered by many companies, you can help permanently remove (and prevent) unwanted software.
Steps to help remove a virus:
1.
Visit the Microsoft Update and install the latest updates.
2.
If you currently use antivirus software, visit the manufacturer's Web site, update your software, and then perform a thorough scan of your computer. If you don't currently use antivirus software, subscribe to a service and scan your computer immediately.
3.
Download, install, and run the Malicious Software Removal Tool (for Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000 users). Note that this tool does not prevent viruses from infecting your system; it only helps to remove existing viruses.

You have to put an antivirus program on your system. AVG 7.5 is a decent program. Once installed just run the program. There are thousands of viruses out there, if you know the name of the specific virus that you want to delete, do a search online for that virus.
Sometimes you might run across a virus that your antivirus program would delete or rather it deletes it but when you reboot it appears again. Do this:
In many cases, a virus will load itself into your system restore files. It is a technique used by hackers to keep re-infecting your computer
using its own back up system. So anytime you are infected with a virus, make sure that you disable the system restore feature and then
run your virus scan.
Disable System Restore in Windows XP:
Right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties". Click the "System Restore" tab and check the box "Turn off System Restore" then click OK.
Disable System Restore in Windows ME:
Right-click "My Computer" and choose "Properties". Select the "Performance" tab then click the "File System" button and go to the "Troubleshooting" tab. Put a check mark next to "Disable System Restore" then click OK.
You'll need to restart your computer.
Run your virus scan. Once it is complete, follow the instructions above in reverse to Enable System Restore.
