Hi! Ive backpacked Europe with friends before, and been on a guided tour to South America but have never explored Asia. Im studying in London for a semester now, and then spending the summer in Korea. I have 2 weeks and desperately want to go to India---Rajasthan imparticularly. I read May is crazy hot, and Id be travelling solo. How crazy is it in India in May? Would I be nuts to go there? Or is it really not that bad? Thanks!

Wow do I envy you India is fantastic!!!! I am not going to lie to you, it is hot. However, they have ways of dealing with it. First wear a hat. Second street vendors sell these small packets of lightly scented clothes that have a little bit of rubbing alcohol in them. You can jam a couple of dozen in a pocket and they open easily, you just clap your hands and the package opens. They help keep you cool as the alcohol evaporates and wipe they away the sweat, I don't know what the third ingredient is, but it has a pleasant light smell and it helps keep you cool as well.

India is very safe, incredibly safe so you will be okay alone. Indians are very helpful and if you need a cool place to rest just ask a local. They have an amazing amount of pasteurized fruit drinks that are safe to drink and you will miss them when you come home.

The food is hot as well, spicy. But they also provide unpeeled fruit (they know the health concerns of visitors), which you can peel yourself and eating the fruit with the hot food is a delightful experience and will help you adjust to the hot food.

The culture is incredible, I don't have enough room, but one thing. Visit the spice markets, you will never forget it. (Also some vendors give free samples and their are no strings attached) but you WILL want to buy some of the things you sample. Bring a food guide that tells you what food you can bring back and what you can not. You will want to bring some of the spice mixes back with you and many of them are allowed to be brought back with you. India is wonderful

India, specially Rajasthan would be very hot in May. Temperature may be at the range of 44º Celsius and humidity may be around 40% RH.

However I know where there is a will there is a way. Nights would be pleasant. Drink enough water and soft drinks, fruit juices. I am sure you would enjoy a lot.

All the best !
