YES!! I work at a hospital and I am not even allowed in the room with patients who have either one.
Shingles during pregnancy can be serious. Pregnant women who get chickenpox or shingles have a higher than normal risk of developing pneumonia. In rare cases, an unborn child exposed to varicella zoster can be damaged or may be miscarried. However this is less likely with shingles than chickenpox.

If you catch it in the last week or so before giving birth, there is a very high risk your baby will be born with chicken pox and I'm pretty sure most of those babies die.
Most things pose a severe risk if caught in very early pregnancy when the baby is forming.
In the second trimester, the risk is still there but not so high.
I remember doing a search for chickenpox on the net whilst only a few days pregnant (I thought I might be) when my little nephew broke out at christmas time.
