The State of Illinois is proposing a ban in House bill 731 and House Bill 796 that would be overly restrictive. What do you think? Source: NRA

In addition to the Second Amendment being weaked, what do you think of proposed HB 254 that woud limit Free Speech? This bill is being introduced by Rep Sheila Jackson Lee, Democrat from Tx.

The actual wording of the second amendment is " A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." As soon as those l"awful citizens" you refer to form the "well regulated militia" the second amendment refers to, they should have the right to keep and bear arms. Absent that, I do NOT feel safer in a nation where virtually anyone can have a firearm, keep it and use it in most any manner they see fit and frequently are most inept at doing so.

As for your claim that Illinois House bills 731 and 796 are "overly restrictive" here is the ACTUAL content:

731 -
Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Provides that it is unlawful for any person to store or leave, within premises under his or her control, a firearm if the person knows or has reason to believe that a minor under the age of 18 (rather than 14) years who does not have a Firearm Owners Identification Card or who is not serving in the military is likely to gain access to the firearm without the lawful permission of the minor's parent, guardian, or person having charge of the minor unless the firearm is secured. Eliminates the provision that the person who stores or leaves the firearm is criminally liable only if the minor causes death or great bodily harm with the firearm. Provides that if the minor causes death or great bodily harm with the unlawfully stored firearm, the penalty is a Class A misdemeanor (rather than a Class C misdemeanor). Eliminates the provision that the firearm may be placed in some location that a reasonable person would believe would be secure from a minor.

796 - Creates the Handgun Dealer Licensing Act. Provides for the regulation of handgun dealers through licensure by the Department of State Police. Provides that no person may sell or otherwise transfer, expose for sale or transfer, or have in his or her possession with the intent to sell or transfer any concealable firearm without being licensed under the Act. Provides, however, that the prohibition does not apply to a person who makes occasional sales, exchanges, or purchases of concealable firearms for the enhancement of a personal collection or as a hobby, or who sells all or part of his or her personal collection of firearms. Sets forth provisions concerning application, fees, duration of licensure, license retention requirements, submissions to the Department, penalties, revocation, and suspension. Grants rulemaking authority to the Department and provides that for the purpose of determining compliance with the Act, the Act may be enforced by any municipality in which a licensee is located or, if a licensee is not located in a municipality, by the county in which a licensee is located.

I'd be willing to bet, since you cited the "source" of your information as the NRA, you didn't even bother to look at the bills for yourself even though they are easily accessible on the internet. That is what is wrong with this country; we accept the word of some organization instead of actually researching and thinking for ourselves. These don't even come CLOSE to "overly restrictive" in my book.

US citizens have a terrible record with guns. Its not the accsess to guns (as Canada have more guns than people) its somthing harder to pin down than that

The 2nd ammendment is outdated, a well organised militia is no longer required and the universal right to carry firearms is no longer safe.

Just take a look at the firearms rules in Japan and the UK and then look at our gun deaths even in relation to population. The US just cannot cope with its gun control laws.

It has been shown that states with the least restrictive gun laws have the lowest crime rates. What does that indicate to you? Your answer is a resounding YES.
