I think its really interesting to hear about horoscopes, and especially how people's personalities are affected by their birthday. One time I even had a reading done where they took my birth day and exact time and gave me a whole profile. But I don't understand the science or logic behind this!
Is there a scientific or rational explanation for why for example as a Gemini as someone who's born in May, I'm supposed to be talkative and indicisive for example...
(which are both true, LOL)

there is no logic behind it...........people will believe anything.........

to even suggest that the month you were born in determines your entire personality is completely ridiculous........

if i just thought of 50 random personality traits and just assigned them to Gemini...........im sure quite a few of those would match you...........

and im sure you have many of the traits from the other signs........

There is no science except to find out where the planets are. Remember until more modern times no other planets were known beyond Saturn.

True some planets are huge but distance matters. They are too far away to influence the earth with their gravity. In fact if you pick up a book of a table you are putting more stress on the earth than Mars does. The moon due to being so close has the most pull when it come to tides. It has more than double the influence on tides than the sun (distance matters again) and more than ALL of the planets combined. The link below explains better than I can. Also since most of the water in our cell structure tides have no effect on our bodies. Just the oceans and large seas.

This question has been asked why people believe and later added on asking for science and logic. So far no science answers (or links) have been given, only statements of belief and there is no science in that. The question should have been instead "what is the evidence" rather than "why believe".

Ask how an airplane flies and you will get an explanation. Air pressure, lift, drag, and other things. Put them together and it works, no belief.
Ask how astrology works is tricky. The science is not there. Too many types, too many variables and no reason.

Also some "believers" tend to get hostile if you ask for evidence or proof. Why? Some of us can't blindly accept so we ask the question. If you ever told someone that they are not "open-minded" or ignorant on Yahoo Answers, that is plain insulting.

Why do people believe in anything? Belief has nothing to do with science. It's the nature of your brain. Humans are the only species that think in terms of the abstract. Many other animals know the difference between hot/cold, up/down, in/out, ect., but humans are the only ones to process the information in abstract terms. Abstract thinking, and the knowledge of our own mortality raises a constant state of apprehension. Humans ask questions, and need answers to make sense of the world around them. Myth and superstitions give answers to the questions that can not be logically resolved, and give reasons for existence. Like anything else in life, belief is in the mind that makes it so. This is true for everything: Science, myth, good, bad, right wrong... Truth is a concept of mind. Don't believe it? 300 years ago everyone knew that mental illness was caused by demons taking over your body. 300 years ago everyone knew that the sun went around the earth. How many people do you think lived their entire lives knowing those "facts"? Belief is just the mind trying to make sense of what it doesn't understand.

The science of it is planet are huge heavy masses that exert gravitational forces on earth and other planets. The moon controls the tides right? Water is a heavy entity, humans are 90% water or somthing like that so dont you think the moon affects us too? The moon is just the closest thing to us but all of the planets move and form aspects that have different affects on us and our lives. Havnt u ever known any Pisces? I think that they most obviously fit their sign. They are very dreamy, not quite living in reality, very sensitive, and try not to aggravate anybody....

It doesn't really have any scientific evidence other than how carefully designed the solar system seems to be the more you learn about it. Some people don't believe in it because they don't act like what their sign is. Usually, the're not looking at their entire chart.

For example, I'm a Scorpio but I enjoy theatre and acting in front of an audience. Sounds more like a Leo than a Scorpio. But if you look closer, you see that I have Leo at the top of my chart.

Take a look at your chart. You'll see that astrology seems more and more real the more you look at it.

btw I'm Christian. Astrology isn't a religion.
btw I don't like Bush. so, yeah I'm pretty messed up.

If you were to think of your Sun sign as your soul -- your inner personality and potential -- and your Moon sign as your heart -- your emotional core -- then you could say that your rising sign is your physical self or the face you present to the world.

Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.

Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it.
Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held.
Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books.
Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin.
Believe nothing just because someone else believes it.
Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true

What would freak you out even more is Numerology : )
