1.It gives identification of school/college colors.
2.Equality for everyone ,no race/class distinction.
3.Saves buying clothes, which in itself saves money.
4.Gives students sense of belonging and self worth.
5.Embassadors of school/college when out at school sports competitions etc..

In other words you should feel a sense of belonging to a group of students being educated at a school with principles and dress code adhered to is not to be taken lightly.

Of course I expect others will ballyhoo my ideals, BUT I was proud to fly my school/college colors when out n about.♥

I've done it all....very strict uniforms..more relaxed uniforms...dresscode/uniform w/ strict guidelines of choices, and finally, no uniforms: free dress. I'd say I'm an expert in the area. I'm now a parent and see it from a parents view, too.

It won't be the life changing answer people are looking for when it comes to finding a solution for improving schools over-all. It does decrease teasing in school about who's wearing what, but doesn't decrease general teasing. Another huge factor of course, cost. Uniforms are cheaper. Uniforms keep kids from wearing clothes that are not age appropriate. Girls tend to dress too provocative and I've seen first hand how boys react to it. Boys in my school would stand regularly at the base of the staircase to be able to glance up the skirts of the young girls and occasionally make comments. It made many girls uncomfortable and was harassing. Even the schools with uniforms regularly have days of free dress. I attended schools that used it as a way to raise money for charity or school events, by letting students purchase a pass for a designated day to wear what they'd like. It is clear that dress codes are not strict enough in 'free dress' schools..............Uniforms are great! Don't dicourage them unless you've tried them. Every school should try them during a trail period,(maybe 2yrs or so), even if the idea is not popular. It should be a parents choice to add uniforms to a non-uniform school but the students decision on what type of uniform or dresscode is chosen.

Hooray for uniforms!!!

The dfes - school uniform guidance, dated February 2002 states that it is the governing bodies that decide whether or not to have a uniform . the schools teachers have to ensure that pupils comply with the uniform policy. No child can be excluded for not having a uniform except in matters of defiance but at the end of the day if you choose to en role in a school with a uniform policy you will be told about it before you start attending school. if you dont like them go to a school with no uniform. this question is a hard question to answer as there are good and bad points about uniforms from individuality matters to not being able to afford designer clothes if you want to know why schools have uniforms it is to give a sense of belonging, pride to teach respect and discipline.

Much cheaper for parents in long run. Requires far fewer clothes for your kids and saves a battle in the morning over what to wear. I have mufti days with a vengeance - we all come to blows in my house - with wardrobes full of clothes mine insist at 8.30am that they cant find a thing they could possibly wear!

Also prevents bullying, teasing etc, that can go on in non uniformed schools.

I do however think schools should be reasonable about the uniform they select. My kids are in a state school and have to wear green! It is not readily available on the high street so you have to go to the outfitters and they are quite expensive. As a result many kids are wearing very old uniform that has gone quite grey and not very smart looking. Navy, blue and black are far easier to come by. The school coat also has to be green and is extortionately expensive. I wish that they would change and allow a plain black coat. My kids look awful (especially the youngest - who only ever has siblings hand me downs!). £70 for a coat is too much, black ones in supermarkets can be £10 and as fashionable also can be worn out of school.

I would still rather have uniform then not!

I have read the replies about the less affluent not standing out in a crowd, and would dispute this. I think that depends on how second hand that uniform is.
I do think though that school uniform is a good idea. Much better than being able to wear designer clothes that everyone else wears!!!!

No need to think of what to wear for the next school day.
Saves some money. Buying school uniforms requires only buying 2 or 3 sets whereas non-school uniforms require buying 5 sets (assuming 5 school days per week).
If your school is reputable, wearing school uniforms make you feel good as people know you belong to that school.

stops the clothes competition that most girls will indulge in as they get older which generally has the effect of ridiculing & isolating the less well off. For primary children it stops them ruining their nice stuff, uniform trousers are fairly cheap, especially if you go for the multibuy offers (Adams is good for this) & most importantly wash really well so when your daughter comes home & says " I was twirling round & fell in the mud" (2 days ago) you don't have quite such a heart attack. They are also cheaper to replace when your child has a growth spurt & shoots up 2" almost overnight.

I agree and disagree on uniforms interior the college equipment. donning uniforms is extra easy on the mothers and dads b/c they do no longer could combat with the youngster on what they're going to placed directly to college. It additionally can decrease different little ones from making exciting of a youngster that would not have "call type" clothing. donning Polo or Tommy clothing would not make one a extra perfect individual than somebody donning Walmart clothing. on the different hand, donning uniforms takes far off from the youngster's potential to be themselves or convey themselves. i think of donning uniforms could be on a school to college foundation. it may artwork for some colleges & no longer for others.

Equality, and a sense of belonging. Without uniforms, the whole thing would be too informal, children would wear all sorts of inappropriate clothing. It would appear that the kids were in charge and not the teachers. Kids are more likely to behave when coming/going to school.

i am so used to wearing school uniform since i was 5 till about 19 !!!!! i cant believe it myself....uniforms benefit us as:-

1. we do not have to crack our heads to think of what to wear everday

2. it somehow disciplines us..i mean we have to tuck in our shirts, wear a tie, wear a name tag,etc.... horrible right but rules are meant to be followed....

3. The rich and poor get to wear the same outfit, so less discrimination...

4. we actually look smart in them.....well...that depends on how your uniform looks :-)

5. if we are fashion conscious we will probably want to wear different attires everday, so...with uniforms we save a large amount of money.

there you are...but honestly....sometimes...or rather most of the time i wish i could wear anything i wanted to....
