pick your friends just because they have... similar stories to tell?

I can't honestly say that I "pick" my friends, and my circle of friends is quite eclectic, although I do believe it's human nature to be drawn to people who have shared the same path as you.

I don't if I pick my friends that way. It may turn that we have similar stories after we share as we become friends. But for me, my best friend has a similar story to mine but were are like night and day [and not just cause I'm black and he's white either :)] We have completely different views on everything from women to clothes to watching sports right down to how to say tomato. Now that I think about it, the only thing we agree on is that we both like big breasts. Other than that, similar stories=different people for me.

I don't pick them...we just end up being friends. Some friends have the same stories as me and some don't.

You pick your friends because you share common ground.
Whether that's personalities, interest or history. But at the end of the day some time it's pot luck
