Alexander of Macedon although a Greek did not make any distinctions bettween Greeks and ''barbarians'' (foreigners). In a time of war, brutality, slavery he delivered a speach which despite being spoken almost 2500 years ago is still considered modern and unique. I would like to know what is your opinion about this oath and how progressive it was by that times standards or even by todays.
The oath can be obtained here in both English and Greek

Please stick to the question. There is no reason to argue about Alexander's nationality, the historians have already cleared it , not to mention Alexander himself, many times. He was Greek as all ancient Macedonians. So do not post irrelevant answers.

An excellent passage from Pseudokallisthenis!!
Alexander was from authentic Macedonia of Greece.
(no relation with the modern republic of Slavic/Albanian-Macedonia as the 2 users above naively confused).
This was the great success of Alexander. He did not try to force to the populations of the Persian empire the Greek culture and language!
he instead fused the Greek culture with Asian elements and created the new international Greek world which was called Hellenistic.
Although the Greeks dominated, they treated the other nations with full respect.
The Greek (Greek-Macedonians) rulers of Egypt even acted as Pharaohs and followed exactly the Egyptian way of leadership.
The specific document is an beautiful example of how Alexander did not view the non Greeks as barbarians.

My god.. can someone please ban these Albanians from posting? can we please settle the fact that Present Day macedonians hae absolutely nothing to connect them to alexander the great the Greek Macedonia of Classical antiquity? They are slavs ..if not mostly albanians who were nowhere near the reagion until well after the fall of rome. If they want to trace what little history they have prior to that, i suggest they look in north western russia

He had to defeat the narrow Hellen city-states and Hellen narrow opinions and to broader it into Hellenism. Indeed, he was Macedonian, not Greek. His country, Macedonia, defeated united Hellenic peoples at the battle of Heroneia and Macedonia occupied "Greece".
