My managers have came to me and said that someone has been reading my line managers emails on the pc that I use, which I haven't.

In order to log onto the pc's at work you need a unique password and anyone could log onto any pc.

They have said that someone logs on as my line manager, reads his emails and then logs off and the next person to be logged on is me. When I come into work in the morning you can see that last person to be logged on and it always has been me as it is normally only me that uses that particular pc.

It is obvious that someone is logging on as my manager and then also knows my password and logs on as me, clearing themselves from any wrong doing.

Can they sack me for this - it couldve been anyone.

In fact, they can sack you as easily as when they had employed you.

However, they MUST know the consequences of acting in such a way. They NEED to establish facts to prove you are wrong and perhaps require a certain compensation plan of some sort for your unemployment.

Anyway, knowingly you are not guilty for what they had blamed, you may want to report this as labor abuse if it is serious (losses, etc.)

The easiest way to stall this is to file a complaint with HR.

No way on Earth you get canned after filing a complaint with HR...HR will block it fearing a wrongful termination suit (you were fired for lodging the complaint).

Go to HR, describe what you have said and tell them you believe you are being unfairly targeted. Ask them to look into the problem (anyone can use any PC) and why has management assumed it was you? Demand action. Don't speak to an HR flunky...find an HR Manager or above...preferably at the Director or VP level. Tell them you would like to discuss this with all involved managers to clear your name. And make sure IT staff is there to verify that anyone can log into any PC during the meeting.

It could not have been anyone, as you yourself have said that each login must have a specific and unique password to actually login. So, either you are doing it yourself and trying to put the blame on someone else, or someone else has your password and is trying to get you fired. Who have you given your password to, or who could have discovered that password, and who would benefit by you being fired? These are the questions you should really be trying to answer!! Good luck! Oh, and to answer the question as it was asked....Yes the company can fire you for this act-because it is your computer with your password, and no proof at this point that someone else is doing said act.

Depending on policy, yes they could can you.

Can you change your user password without letting everyone know you changed it? Then they couldn't log back in as you and when you come in you would see that the "line manager" is the last log in.

Wow that sucks!

Explain the situation as you have just done and tell them it wasn't you. Start an investigation. Ask them for this before they think of sacking you.

You need to try and prove that it is not you, and talk very honestly to the people concerned.
