Hard to say which is best, war movies like Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now, Platoon, No Man's Land, We Were Soldiers, Thin Red Line are pretty good but the following 2 movies really got stuck in my head since I watched it only once a few years back.
1) Casualties of War.
2) When Trumpets Fade.

not a film - a story Red Badge of Courage. Despite the fact that the author never saw combat it comes closer to describing what a war is like than anything I ever read or saw.

My top six, in order of how emotionally wrenching I found them:
1) Gettysburg
2) A Bridge Too Far
3) Saving Private Ryan
4) When Trumpets Fade
5) Platoon
6) Stalingrad
I have yet to see "Flags Of Our Fathers" or "Letters From Iwo Jima" so this list may be up for revision when I do....
