a coward is thought to be someone who is too afraid to face something,,, in this story,, the man knew he was afraid, and would not be able to put on a calm appearance, and his opponent would see this,,,,, this man felt that he would then lose his honor,, and that was something he was too afraid to face,,, so he commited suicide,,,,,, he was too afraid (too cowardly ) to face appearing to be a coward,,
