The organelle which carry out protein synthesis is RIBOSOME. It's hard to describe where are the ribosomes but ribosomes are divided into two which are bound ribosomes and free ribosomes.

Bound ribosomes are attached to the rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) so that the product of protein synthesis can be packaged and transported by RER to the Golgi apparatus to be further processed. RER is the continuous membrane of the nucleus membrane.

Free ribosomes are suspended in the cytoplasm. The product of free ribosomes will be secreted from the cell.

*Hope this helps.

For short, protein takes place in the ribosome, that is an organelle located in the cytoplasm of a cell.

Protein synthesis takes place in RIBOSOMES, which are aggregation of membraneless ribonucleoprotein particles.

Ribosomes are found on the ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM.
They remain in a chain like manner called POLYRIBOSOME or POLYSOME.

Depending on its asociation with ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum is classified into:
1) Rough endoplasmic reticulum (with ribosomes)
2) Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (without ribosomes)

actually..protein synthesis involves 2 major steps....transcription n translation......wherein transcription.....an m-RNA is synthesized using DNA as its template.....n using this m-RNA ribosomes help in the synthesis of proteins by translation process....so finally..i think..we can say it occurs in ribosomes....but..only with the help of DNA , m-RNA,t-RNA....sum initiatn factors...n many others....
