I think its great UK has Health and Safety executive. It allows for lessons learnt (where dangers can exist) to be lessened.

We have street-signs now that aren't at dangerous headheights to pedestrians and loads of other stuff. You will be hard pressed to buy a smoke alarm in France... (hardly anywhere sells them) and you can bash your head on some of their street-signs if you're distracted. France has no H&SE.

Your right, but they do serve a purpose, employment to a load of civil servants, but what other role do they serve ? just make life impossible for everyone else, lets face it you can get sued for anything these days, so company's have to follow these guide lines other wise they leave themselves open to prosecution. Did you know there are more fires called by home owner's trying to cook their breakfast and fried eggs is one that carries a higher risk than eating a bowl of cornflakes ? your 20 times more likely to set fire to your home, than spilling the milk, so its cornflakes for you in future.

I admit that some of the regulations are a bit daft, but think of a workplace with no H&S regulations, that would be an awful place to work.
