I have to pull out the power adapter for it to stop and even then it carries on beeping for a couple of seconds after. I have two harddrives so changed them over and a complete reformat and it happened again this morning. Sometimes it goes days without doing it, sometimes 3/4 times a day.

The PC doesnt say shutting down, it just completely dies, then beeps!

Your help or advise will be appreciated.

The usual causes for random shutdowns are:
1)Overheating triggers auto-shutdown to protect the CPU;
2)Memory module going bad;
3)Power supply going bad.

Here is list of beep codes and what they mean.

It sounds like a motherboard or processor issue, the beeps are a code, listen to them and write down the code, 3 short beeps + 1 long beep (for example), then look up the codes in Google for the motherboard, search for "XYZ motherboard BIOS codes", that should get the answer to what is going on. The reason it is shutting down is that there is something drastically wrong with a major piece of hardware and the BIOS code will tell you what it is.

It sounds like a board problem. Consult the board manufacturer they usually have a list of beep codes for that sort of thing. Also try different memory. You could also disconnect all devices to see if it will POST. Even without a hard drive it should attempt to boot until it gives a boot device error. If it POSTS ok then reconnect the hard drive and try again. Then reconnect all devices one by one until you get your error. It sounds like a memory issue but you can try, it is possible another device like a CD-ROM has gone bad and is causing the problem.

first listen for the no. of beeps then if it beeps 2-3 times it means there is a fault in RAM, more beeps means sometimes display unit faults, etc.

Sounds like your over taxing the Power Supply, or your processor fan is not working correctly.
If your using anything less then a 300watt PS for multiple hard drives then this is your problem.
Also make sure the processor heat sink is not clogged with filth!

listen the way it beeps the computer when it happens and than look in the Mainboard manual and see what kind of error that sounds indicates first, in order to be able to know what to do after
