Me and my friend are doing something with the fish and we dont wanna kill them.

First off its my fish and we're not trying to kill them i think my friend does but i sure dont and atcually its all my friend im just trying to stop her she keeps grabbing them wit her bare hands and getting them out and i dont want them to die so i asked this question since i cant stop her unless i tell my mom and that would be kinda tattle talish

I would say about 1 or 2 minutes, and it could depend on the type of fish also.

Depends on the fish, in the unlikely event that they are lung fish then they can last a long time, other than that only a few minutes. A fish out of water is like you with your head under water.
Get a bucket and stick some water in it.

my god what do you plane to do? watch it dry itself up? oh, please. you should be sued. a fish can normally last without water more or less, a minute! and that's it. because i doubt that the fish you have is a mudskipper or any other brackish fish. you probably have a goldfish, perhaps an angelfish. that's too cruel. dont do it.

Around the same amount of time you can live without Oxygen. So, I wouldn't keep him out for long.
