and how did you learn?

I took typing in high school, and I still only type, like, 9 words a minute.

That's cute really...Keep practicing, after a while your fingers will move by themselves without thinking! I thaught myself over a period of 2 weeks every morning for an hour before starting my work. Now I 'm satisfied with 40 words a minute...I don't see the point in going any faster since I improvise most of what I write as I write it! It still fascinates me even up until today to actually realize that all of these fingers know exactly where to go automatically without even me thinking about it! The magic of life...!!!

Before I took my typing class in high school, I typed with like two fingers, looking at the keys. At first I thought it was a lame and complete waste of a class, but after you stick to it for a while, you get the hang of it! I think my fastest timed writing was 75 strokes per min (gwam). It's amazing how fast I can type now, (the correct way) without looking at the keyboard. In class we basically just kept typing with this lame program, that just made you practice with each finger, each hand, and then both hands together. There were also typing games and stuff. You can also purchase a typing cd rom to learn at home.

I took a course in college and I can type maybe 27 words a minute, without too many mistakes. If you search the web type free typing tutors and those sites will help you to learn to type better.

I'm at 42 WPM, but I still need work. You can get Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing and if you just want to see how fast you type, use a search engine and type in "free typing test".

I type about 65-70 wpm. I flunked typing in high school, but I finally learned just by teaching myself with my Grandma's old school typewriter and her typing practice book.
