I really liked the movie, but did anyone else find it just a little bit gory?

After seeing the movie we did talk about how Fairy Tales were always tragic...Disney really has twisted them.

The nature of Ophelia's situation was a direct factor in her retreat into fantasy. Had her external life not been so dismal... her internal life wouldn't have been so bright. Similarly, had we not seen how dark life was... we might think Ophelia to be mentally sick instead of mentally retreating from her oppressive world. I think it was necessary.
I think it was refreshing to see a fairy tale that wasn't watered down by Disney, or made to have a happy ending because "that's what Hollywood does".

Yes. I was really hyped up to see that movie. Even though it was a good story,it was extremely depressing and sad. I found myself disliking it after a while. I can honestly say, I don't want to see it again.

Yes, but I suppose that was a point the director was trying to make. I personally could have done with less brutality, but maybe it made Ofelia's situation more understandable and made us empathize with her even more than we might otherwise have done.
